A visit to Algonquin February 21 2025

I have been waiting most of the winter to go to experience Algonquin. I try to go to the park at lest 2 times a year. This year between work and cloudy days I was stuck at home. Algonquin needs sunlight to show off its beauty. On Monday I started to look on Windy.com for the cloud cover for the week ahead. Monday said Friday was my day for a sunny day. Thursday evening it still said the sun would be out for a few hours stating around 11 AM. Well it moved the clouds away at 10:30 and Algonquin lite up in her beauty. Here is the first stop and the snow is picnic table top deep. The trail I was on was made with snowshoes from the hikers before me. The park was real quiet with only very few people visiting it.

Road into the park you can see the light snow in the distance

Lake of Two Rivers

Start my hike up to the Lookout

Notice BLUE SKY

Made it to the lookout.

With no wind in the bush the snow gets very creative

More creative snow

At the Spruce Bog I had a welcoming committee meet me

Bring trial mix and you will have company

A glob of ice stuck to a huge rock

Ah is that the best you got?

The last bird I found at the visitor centre. Most years the the feeders are full of all kinds of birds but this year I only saw this one and a few chickadees.

So at 3PM the sun was clouded away and I had a wondrous day. Did a couple hikes made sure I brought my lunch and drinks because you are in the wilderness with only a road in and out. My spirit was charged again, it was like spending time with an old friend. It is always a great time.

  1. That grey jay has bracelets on!
Lovely shots. Especially the one is the island. And the birds. And squirrels. And the snow. Oh and the rock. And the lookout! I’m glad you got such a nice day!

  2. Yes for some reason some people think they need to put 2 tags on each leg of the Grey Jay. Until I find a real good reason for the tags I think it is cruel.

  3. Nic pictures.

  4. These are beautiful! Thanks for the visit.
